Another day off
Thanks to a great boss I was able to take another day off work today, even though I only made the decision first thing this morning.
Running wise I had a mini-double today, I had to take a PT session this morning because I did not have time to organise cover. I did a warm up and cool down with the group and also did some of their hill work with them, I think this was all a bit over 4km.
This afternoon the other half was due at Box Hill for more tests, EEG this time, which was going to take about an hour. An hour your say! Well I could sit in the waiting room and keep going on the book I got stuck into yesterday during my 4 hours in Emergency, or I could go for a run. Needless to say as much as I love to read the run won out. The hospital is a little over 3km from the Koonung track so I headed down that way and managed a reasonably pacey 10km run, a bit like Wednesday morning it started out slower and I came home strong and quick. It rained most of the morning and is raining now, fortunately my uncanny good luck with the weather held out for the duration of my run and it stayed dry.
Feeling cozy and warm after a hot shower and after the events of the last 2 days comfort food was the order of the day for dinner. I made a mushroom risotto and even if I do say so myself it was damn good (especially when you add rosemary to the mushies when you fry them). This is one of those things that once you get the basics right you can put what ever you like in it. Today it was swiss brown and porchini mushrooms, the dried ones, these are great because you can add the soaking water to the stock. Now here is the thing, like mashed spuds there is just no such thing as a “light” risotto, I mean you could do it if you must but don’t ask me to eat it. I use a stack of olive oil at the start and a big chunk of butter and heaps of fresh grated parmesan cheese at the end, sorry, but you simply must otherwise it tastes like shite.
Once, years ago a woman I worked with tried to tell me how to prepare low fat mash potato, I put my hands over my ears and went La La La La La. I have Irish ancestors for pity sake, I would be sent to the fiery pits of hell if I tried to make low fat mash. I have mash probably only once every couple of weeks (most of them in the winter months) and if you couldn’t have it with butter and milk and sometimes even some grated cheese then why would you bother? Seriously, WHY?
Mmmmm, full belly, very satisfied.
PS - the OH is doing OK today, a bit of delayed soreness, cranky with the plaster cast already and looking a bit rough with the cut lip and messed up teeth, people will think he has been brawling
Fortunately it looks like TAC insurance should cover the dental work.
