Trying Times

At the risk of being hunted down by a mob of angry Vegans and beaten to death with a slab of tofu I am sorry to say but BEING A VEGAN SUCKS!!!!!!

And if the Vegans don’t get me then I am sure the Teetotals will seek me out and drown me in Claytons as I further declare that BEING A TEETOTAL SUCKS!!!!

I am fine without the coffee, I love a latte and I am fond of a macchiato, but I don’t need coffee and I am even coping fine without the sugar, I am not however fine without dairy, eggs and fish. I feel like dreary no fun woman as I walk around with a scowl on my face trying to suppress murderous thoughts towards people blithely tucking into tuna salad sandwiches and lunchtime smoothies without a care in the world.

Phew, just needed to vent, I can survive until Wednesday next week as a Vegan, thus making it 2 weeks, I reckon that’s enough for me to be able to declare “I can knock it because I tried it”. But I am happy to see out the remainder of the month with fish back in my diet, though I’ll cope without the dairy, sugar, coffee and alcohol so the uber healthy month plan will still be well and truly on track.

Now let the Vegan hate mail begin

Haven’t had my runs yet today, I have an easy 6km planned on my own, quick change into my run leaders gear and then taking a 5km group on a run around the Tan, it’s going to be a warm one tonight.

Running

A couple of runs this afternoon, a 6Km tempo just touch over 5 minute pace, then a very slow 5.3Km as run leader at a touch under 6 minute pace. I was thinking that there wouldn’t be many people running today as it is the first one back for the year and a warm night. I was wrong, there was a huge turnout, lot’s of old faces but also a heap of new ones as well. I took them on the easy route that skipped Anderson Street and had a bit of a chat afterwards, it is a little scary having all these people wanting advice from little ole me

On the Vegan thing, yeah, maybe just cutting one too many things out of the diet for the month, it left me subsisting on fruit and veg, grains and nuts, I am afraid I need more variety. Ewen hit the nail on the head mentioning a runner who spends alot of money on food products. Look at a Vegan cookbook and it is full of meat substitutes, alot of which is a heavily manufactured product, just check the ingredient list of a veggie burger in the supermarket freezer sometime. I have always rejected meat substitutes, I generally find them unpalatable and pointless and I would rather have lentils than tofu, tempeh, gluten or soy sausages. And don’t even get me started on soy “cheese”, it is not fecking cheese, yes I have tried it and it is vile as is soy chocolate, are you getting the feeling I am not a fan of soy? Last week I had “bolognese” sauce made with gluten instead of meat, I tried to like it but ended up binning it after eating only half of it. I choose not to eat meat and I have no desire to eat fake meat, if I want spag bol I’ll have a real one.

Thanks for the tips Beki, I really have tried over the years, it is the texture that I don’t like, especially silken tofu *shudder*
