Well, you all needed to know all that about me didn’t you? Being I was a bit slow on the uptake I won’t tag anyone because I think this one has done the rounds now.
So, what went on today?
I had the day off and it could not have been a more perfect day for it. Spent most of the day catching up on all the house work and clothes washing that was neglected while I was away (YAWN) and getting all excited about being able to go for a 45 minute run in the afternoon.
Oh for pity sake, leave me alone, some marketer just knocked on my door! Is nowhere sacred? I didn’t answer the door and full credit for persistence he kept knocking (he could see me though the window). Is it really rude to choose not to answer your door if you don’t want to?
Still needing to avoid the paved surfaces I drove myself down to the Dandy Creek trail at about 2:30pm, I’d have to double back to clock up 45 minutes but the trail was long enough to be able to avoid doubling back too much. The afternoon was glorious, about 16 degrees and perfectly clear and sunny, ideal for a run. I gave the Nike+ unit a spin but it needs to be calibrated as it told me I ran over 10Km in 45 minutes
, I’ll set it up properly using the Tan markers on Wednesday before run leading.
The real result over 45 minutes was 8.73Km, average of 5:09Km, so maybe a tad faster than I should have. So let’s call this the tempo run for the week, the run leader run on Wednesday will be much slower. Felt great though, the slowest KM I ran was 5:16 and although it was a faster pace it still felt pretty relaxed.
I FEEL GREAT
Remember what it is like when you meet someone new, you talk for hours, you have a great date and then for days afterwards you remember bits and pieces and feel all warm and fuzzy. Well I am such a loser that this is pretty much how I feel about my run on Saturday, it felt so bloody good to be involved again and I don’t care that I came 120 out of about 140 and it was slow as. Em the runner is back, bouncing all over the place, enthusiastic and motivated, call me a running nerd I don’t care, I am stoked because I forgot what this feeling was like.
I did some research on the net today about this whole choking at the end of a race vibe, not much luck so far. There was a Q and A on the Running Times site but the answer was not much use to me, already tried all the stuff suggested, it didn’t work. In hindsight it is a pretty recent occurrence, probably only since I did my first Half Marathon last year. I wasn’t even thinking about it on Saturday, but when the finish line was in sight it just hit me like a bolt from the blue, damn frustrating.
This stupid Kevin Rudd visits a strip club issue refuses to die, now quicker than they can admit to smoking dope (but of course not inhaling) pollies are a claiming to have visited the odd strip joint “just once of course, in the 70s, for a mates bucks night, I drank lemonade all night and looked at the floor”, I am now standing by for Channel 9s “special” look at Melbourne’s Strip Clubs, ughhhhh, who cares, as long as he wasn’t cramming tax payers $$s into bedazzled G-Strings I am officially over it. Get back to me when he his doing favours in back alley’s to support a crack habit and I may just be able to muster some outrage. I really hate election years, “Lowest Common Denominator” seems to be the order of the day.
I updated my running play list page today, took some stuff off and added some newbies. Is it just me or is Australian music really good at the moment? I added these today, Midnight Juggernauts, British India, Gotye, Muscles, Architecture in Helsinki, 67 Special (think they are Aussie, can’t be stuffed checking).
