I was going to say essentially the same thing as the first two comments, and also say that a little intentional elbow to the kid would have been forgiveable, definitely not evil :-) And also, some apple pie and ice cream every now and then is fine too - don't beat yourself up over that !

Em, you continue to inspire me. It just goes to show what is achievable if you have a long term goal - and WHY goals are so important.

Ok Em, this post is just too funny, I am laughing out loud! I am so with you on this. The very thought of pool running makes me nauseous. You're absolutely right. A 7.3km run right now feels like we ran a half marathon...dragging a tire behind us! My friend Matty's favorite saying is..."Isn't running fun?!" Ha! So here's my advice if you want it...if pool running (or any other cross-training) is making you tired or nuts, ease up on how much you're doing. There is no danger in losing fitness taking a physical and mental break every so often but there is a danger in getting injured if you're too fried to hold decent running form (I know, I know...my form sucks right now too). I think the stress of starting back to running is hard enough on our systems (and minds) and we need to recover. We should go into our running sessions rested and motivated. I would say at this point, when you need a day off, take it. Do some drills that emphasize a quick, light turn-over or do some core/strength stuff instead on that day if you REALLY have to do something. You've (we've) been working really hard and this transistion back into running takes more out of us than we realize. I hope this makes you feel better. I don't want to come across as some know -it-all because I'm not. This is all advice I have collected from fellow runners and coaches I've spoken to. I think we're doing just great and hey....we're running again (:!!!
Ciaou for now!
