Recovery – Phase 2

Real Running and a Trip to the Doctor
Todays session was walk 1 minute and run 5 minutes for 30 minutes.

After chatting with the doctor this afternoon it was determined that I was probably running a wee bit too fast. So today I tried to peg it back by about 20 seconds per Km. Therefore this afternoon I ran about 4.3Km at about 5:50 pace. This is pretty hard because it doesn’t feel right, when I run at this pace I feel that I am landing quite heavily and it does not feel all that graceful. When I pick up the pace it feels more fluid an natural, however I am still very much in recovery mode and have been told to take it easy so take it easy I will.

I am pleased however that I am finding this pace too easy, if I was finding it difficult it truly would signal that my fitness was shot to hell.

The news was good at the doctors, I have passed my first 3 weeks of run/walk with flying colours and will now be progressing to a more running focussed schedule for the next 3 weeks, which also plays out my theory that I would be spending about 7 weeks on this stuff before returning to more normal training.

So here is the plan for the next 3 weeks, again running every second day -
Days 1, 3 and 5
Run 7.5 minutes and walk 1 minute 3 times

Days 7, 9 and 11
Run 10 minutes and walk 1 minute 3 times, if feeling OK progress to 4 times on day 11

Days 13, 15 and 17
Run 15 minutes and walk 1 minute 3 times

Days 19, 21 and 23
Run 20 minutes, stretch, Run another 20 minutes
NO WALKING :-)

Then it is back to the doctor to discuss returning to speedwork and racing, I will also be having a blood test to check the iron levels.

Slowly but surely I am getting there.

Farewell The Palace
The Palace burnt down yesterday, although it closed a few weeks ago. It was grungy, the floor was sticky with god only knows what, it smelled funny and as well as live bands it also hosted any number of dodgy theme nights, not least of which was The Cathouse the heavy metal night (no, I never went!)

But I have some great memories of the old place. I saw Nirvana play there, a very unique experience that I won’t forget, call me corny but Smells Like Teen Spirit still sends shivers down my spine, it was just a certain era. I bought a T-Shirt that night that had “Fudge Packin Crack Smokin Satan Worshippin Mother Fucker” written on the back, my mother was not best pleased when I wore it to a family BBQ, but hey, I was young, I had blue hair and was chock full of attitude

I also saw The Rollins Band for the second night running, but the night before they played at The Prince of Wales, then I had tinnitus for 3 days afterwards, I was up the front and I am pretty sure Henry Rollins sweat on me

The Lemonheads were another gig, my mate and I swooned when Evan Dando walked by within a metre of us and to my endless joy I hooked up with the ED lookalike who was there that night who I had been eyeing off at Uni for weeks.

Finally I also saw The Cruel Sea and to this day I still wouldn’t say no to Tex Perkins if he was on offer

Reefer Madness
So a few more of Maryjane’s mates came out of the closet today.

Apparently Liberal MP Nick Minchin had the odd toke at university, but isn’t sure if he sparked up with Peter Garrett who was also there at the same time. The bald one reckons he indulged “as a young man”, though rest assured folks it isn’t all going to pot, another class mate, old Kev won’t be rushing out to the 7-11 for a packet of Tim-Tams in a big hurry, it was “never part of his scene”

Please, who gives a shit? It’s not like they are all passing around the crack pipe after parliament lets out for the day, whoopdee doo, you had a toke at Uni, who the hell didn’t?
