Snap Crackle Pop

No, I am not eating rice bubbles, high GI no nutrients crap breakfast, it is the sound of my open fire keeping me company while I blog, it be mighty chilly in Melbourne Town today folks.

I don’t often light the fire due to good old fashioned middle class guilt about the environment and all the nasty emissions that our open fires are supposed to emit. But I have discovered these great fake logs from Bunnings that are made of recycled stuff or some such thing. They say they put out half the emissions, I can tell you that there is barely any smoke and the damn things are burning mighty hot. A few years ago a mate lost a Peppermint Gum in a storm and I do have a nice little collection of logs from that too so I will just chuck one on for that old fashioned ambience. One of these days I will get around to installing one of those Gas Log fires in the fireplace, but there are a few things in line ahead of that, re-stumping (yawn), new kitchen, decking etc etc.

I did my water running this morning, the plan had a rest day scheduled so I made the session up
5 minute warm up
2 sets of 45 seconds hard 15 seconds easy for 15 minutes
5 minute cool down

Not much room today, stacks of kids and we were in a limited space because although it is school holidays the pool is still running it’s usual program so part of the general purpose area was devoted to aqua aerobics. It was like Lord of the fecking Flies in there today, Mothers sitting around chatting to each other while their little brats darlings run amuck. The last straw was when I was trying to use the steps to get out and some little charmer practically landed on my head after jumping off the starting block, right in front of a bloody pool attendant, seriously does anyone give a shit?

I wore my orthotics around today, sorry, I should start using the grammatically correct term, my orthoses. They do feel strange, kind of like I have a couple of golf balls in my shoes, but not especially uncomfortable, it will be a week or so before I try running in them though.

A cold day and time still on my hands as I see out the last days of my two weeks off work demanded a nice cosy lunch out somewhere today. My all time favourite place is still closed for renovations :-( and my back up choice was packed. So with some degree of trepidation I tried a new place that did not appear too busy (generally not a good sign) as I was set on having lunch out. While I will never desert my fave I was still pleasantly surprised and had a pretty damn good Red Curry. I adore Red Curry, I could happily eat just a huge bowl of steamed rice and Red Curry sauce, few things on this planet make me happier than a big bowl of the stuff, especially on a cold cold day. So I filled my belly with rice and Prawn Red Curry and went home a very happy camper.

My copy of the US Runners World magazine tuned up in the mail yesterday and there was a great article on a cross training circuit workout, combining running and using your own body weight and playground equipment to do core strengthening work. Anyway, check it out here once I get the all clear to start running rather than run/walking I think I will give this a go a couple of times a week just to mix things up a bit. If you see me attempting to do a reverse row please don’t laugh to hard.
