Water Running
Long run day, 90 minutes in the pool, churning out endless laps. At least today there were hardly any kids and they had 3 whole lanes open for general purpose use so I was able to go round in a big circle.
Rather than just tootling around I made it a fartlek session, using the music I would go tempo pace for one song and hard pace for the next and so on, it helped the time pass a little quicker.
Good songs for hard pace were -
Baggy Trousers - Madness
I Want You So Hard - Eagles of Death Metal
Paradise City - Guns N Roses
Best of You - Foo Fighters
Good song, but shit song for running play list - The Drugs Don’t Work by The Verve, god, the mood I was in today it was all I could do to not take off my floaty belt and drown myself when that one came on
For a change I got my act together and did a heap of housework this morning before heading to the pool. So now I am just taking it easy, messing about a bit on the net and keeping an eye on the Comrades Marathon race tracker. The guy who won the Canberra Marathon, Magnus Michelsson is running again this year and I am curios to see how he goes, from memory he placed pretty well last year, at least in the top 40 or 50.
That’ll do, I am a bit fed up today, injury can be isolating at times and some days are harder than others. You plug away with the cross training (5 hours 50 minutes in the pool this week) and just hope that there will be some pay off. Right now I am just a little over watching what I eat all the time and I’d crawl over broken glass for a good glass of red. I bought a lovely loaf of Pane di Casa bread on the way home from the pool, I haven’t been buying bread because I can’t resist eating endless pieces of toast with butter and jam. I compromised and had 3 small slices from the end, untoasted with just jam and no butter
I did have a tiny little cry today, but more out of frustration than anything. Mum had left me a voicemail while I was in the pool, she had heard about the Run to the G on the radio and assumed I was running it, she rung to say she hoped I was having a good run, aghhhhhhh, she keeps forgetting I am injured.
Whinge over, I am hanging in there, back to the Doc on Thursday and an appointment with the Podiatrist as well.

“Cheer up charlie!!” Sorry you are having a bad day em, still doing so well to have more good than bad…sounds like you are improving at a great rate too so it shouldn’t be too long before you are back at it and all the cross training will pay off i am sure. Best wishes for the appointments this week - keep us posted and let me know if you want to take the road bike for a spin anytime.

BTW Em - thanks for suggestion of middleborough, burwood hwy, blackburn rd block. Did it this morning but cheated and left off the cantebury rd bit, so only 6.6 km- showed me once again i have a lot of hill training to do in the next 7 weeks, can’t believe what a difference the hills make, but will stick to it as i can see what good practice it will be….

Hang on in there Em. You are so nearly there! Maybe a short jog at the weekend if all goes well?? And you’ll be amazed at how quickly you find your fitness again after all the pool running you’ve been doing.

yep Em..agree with all of the above…but i know how hard it can be to remain cheery when you are injured..you can vent tomorrow in the pool..90mins in the water is enough to depress anyone..it will pay off..the fitness wont be lost..but of course as you and i both know..the running will have to come back slowly slowly..youve been so good..90mins..i reckon you could have 1 or 2 glasses of wine!itll make you feel better
