Running
17Km in 1:35:28, average pace 5:36

The long runs they be getting longer. Very strange for me to be doing a long run on a Saturday afternoon. I did get up this morning with the intention of going out to Jells Park for a 10Km run with the Start to Finish group. But I must have slept funny last night because I woke up with a very painful neck and shoulder, so much so that it hurt to take a deep breath, not a good vibe for a run. So unfortunately most of the morning was spent with a hot water bottle and nurofen

As I discovered today I am not a big fan of afternoon long runs, not in summer anyway, it was tough going over the last 4Km or so and fantasising about watermelon was pretty much what go me through to the end. I could have waited for tomorrow but I want to get out early for another 50Km bike ride, then follow up with a 5Km run in the afternoon to round out the week.

And I did get my watermelon, I popped into the shops on the way home to pick up the ingredients for dinner and a Red Bull that didn’t make it to the car park. I won’t be making a habit of supermarket shopping after long runs, I know I was a sight! People giving me odd sideways glances, wrinkling their noses and hurrying their children away from the mad woman.

I got new shoes today, the evil shoes are no more. I went back to Active Feet today, not really expecting to return the shoes but hoping they would give me a discount on a new pair. To my surprise they swapped the old ones for a new pair, I just had to pay the difference as they were a bit more expensive, now that is good customer service considering I bought the Nikes last October. Anyway, turns out the Brooks Trance 6 were fine for me afterall, I suspect that the sales assistant who helped me last time was not too experienced. The Pod who helped me today agreed that the Nikes were not right, they were too wide causing my foot to move around and effectively slip over the medial post and then pronate too far, the result, too much stress on the Plantar Fascia ligament and a case of Plantar Fasciitis followed. I could see this clearly happening on the video.

Last time I was in the girl had me running on the treadmill at 6 minute Kms, too slow for me. Today I was hooning along at 5 minute Kms which gave a better view of how a shoe would perform for me. The result a brand spanking new pair of Trance’s with the fancy new Mogo sole and a very happy camper. I did my long run in them today and they are a fantastic shoe, more flexible than the 5s and wonderfully responsive. So now I have some 5s and the new 6s to rotate. I’ll be treating myself to a new racer before the AV season starts too, so I got the Pod to show me some flats as well, Brooks make one that looks good for me because it still provides a little bit of support, so I’ll be back at the start of April, the Zoom Elites are getting close to retirement. So check these out the Racer ST 2, pretty flash hey!

Guess I am a Brooks girl, Nike for the Body, Brooks for the feet.

God, I am the only person who can endlessly crap on about running shoes?

Wankers
Alright, what is it with teenage boys and those stupid mini motor bike things?? And more to the point what is it with teenage boys, those stupid mini motor bike things and bike/walking/running paths???? For god sake I am not so worried for myself, but there were heaps of little tackers out there today on their little pushbikes and these wankers are hooning around on their stupid motor bikes. Never mind the fact that they are not allowed on the bike paths, I can’t believe that their parents let them do it, and yes I am sure mum and dad know exactly where their kids are taking these bikes, where else would they be?

Well, I couldn’t help myself today, had to give a couple of them a piece of my mind, something along the lines of the very unladylike “get off the bike path you fucking stupid little wanker!”, then I fully expected reprisals because I was on my own, but they just kept going.

Cool
Thanks for the comment Ewen, that’s pretty cool, looks like a race I should enter one day :-)
