Running
8.5 Km in 44:41, average pace 5:15
Feeling fit and fine this morning when I dragged myself out of bed at 05:15 again I decided that I was fine to run again today. There is a good reasonably hill circuit where I live, the pocked that my street is in is bordered by 4 major roads and a loop is about 10Km.
Decided not to over do it as it was my first time running 2 days in a row for many weeks so I took the shorter option heading up a road that goes straight up the middle of the circuit, which gives a 8.5 Km loop. Now I used to run this alot back in January/February last year when 8.5 Km was a pretty long run for me, but I haven’t run it since ANZAC day. There is a long hill (about one and half Anderson Streets, but steeper) that I used to dread and more often than not walk part of. Today I was surprised to realise that I hadn’t given it a second thought and had almost got to the top before I realised that it wasn’t that difficult after all, way cool
In 8 months that hill had become alot less daunting!
Again my foot felt fine and my calves were not as tight as yesterday, hopefully tomorrow morning I will be able to tackle the full loop. Incidentally I usually profess a great dislike for running the streets around where I live. But because I haven’t done it for so many months, and I am out at the crack of dawn when it is cool and quiet I am finding that I am really enjoying the change of scenery.
I have booked a massage for Wednesday next week, returning to training means that my muscles are protesting a bit and I need to take care of my calves as they will have a flow on effect to my feet if they are too knotty.
My new years resolution is to pay more attention to recovery which means, regular massage, proper stretching and cool downs after every run and ice baths after long runs and interval work. It will be a pretty big winter for me, with more racing than I have done previously and I want to get through it and compete in every race.
Another good day nutrition wise, though I am finding myself craving sweets quite badly, curse my sweet tooth
Ever since I had Plantar Fasciitis I now have to resist the urge to accost teenagers wearing those stupid rubber thongs and shake them yelling “you’re ruining your feet!”. The damn things are every where, and given that I am totally grossed out by the sight of other people’s bare feet I am struggling at the moment
