No running today, will probably continue to follow the running every second day routine for 2 week from today. All things going well I will be back doing interval work on Tuesday 16 January.
After a laid back NYE I was able to get the most out of the day as I was not nursing a hangover. I finished off the big late Spring Clean I started last week and also made sure all the “bad” stuff was gone from the fridge and pantry. We had pretty much eaten all the treats anyway, apart from some bubbly ice tea, something which I have become a bit addicted to, still, not as bad as soft drink.
Apart from the clean up I also trawled through all my cookbooks and this site to make sure I had plenty of quick easy and healthy dinner options up my sleeve. Though as I am switching to morning running from tomorrow my evenings will be a little less rushed over Summer.
Have got off to a good start nutrition wise today
B - 3 weet-bix with 200ml Physical Milk with Sustegen added and a sliced banana
MT - Toast with left over guacamole
L - Lean Cuisine Burmese Veg Curry with brown rice (confession, as deplorable as it is I LOVE this, low in KJ and high in fibre, I always have a few in the freezer and it beats the hell out of toasted crumpets with butter and honey for nutrition, which would have been the alternative)
AT - Banana
D - I have made a huge pot of veg soup packed with good stuff, lot’s of veg, some pasta, left over brown rice and beans
Not a bad start at all really. To be honest my diet tends to be pretty good but I do have a massive weakness for simple things like crumpets or white bread with lot’s of butter and jam/honey and could easily eat half a loaf in a day if I am not careful. Also I have a tendency to reach for the chocolate when I am bored or stressed. So really the plan is to keep the diet full of good nutritious simple food with lot’s of fresh fruit and veg and whole grains.
This is not just about fueling the engine with Premium but also about keeping myself healthy. I anticipate that I will be running alot of Kms this year, as well as racing more often. This sort of stress on the body can lower the immune system, the stronger I am the less susceptible I’ll be to colds and other viruses.
Speaking of races I was wanting to race some shorter stuff over summer, so I will be entering the Super Sunset Series 4Km events. I like a series event so you can compare the times and with the first one not until 7 February I have 5 weeks to build my fitness back. I wouldn’t expect the first to be great but by the 3rd I should be posting a good time and it will lead nicely into the Run 4 Kids.
On that note, I will be going into the R4K with my last long race having been the Melbourne Half Marathon. I’ll have to make sure there is a good quality long tempo session in my training plan each week to get me race ready again.
Finally getting around to seeing Casino Royale tonight, now I just have to resist the Choc Top
I have been getting some interesting stats from WordPress too, seems alot of people visit me via Ausrun, in particular the Craig Mottram and Benita Johnson thread. Speaking of which, Buster set a new Oz 10Km road race record in Spain overnight and Benita came second in the Woman’s race, go Aussies
